Integrated Math I is a course designed to transition students into the application of real world problems. Students will be asking themselves our 9th grade guiding question Who Am I? As they prepare for and explore the mathematical world that surrounds them. Topics for Integrated Math I include Pre-Algebra, Statistics and an introduction to Geometry. Students will become fluent in identifying patterns of graphs, charts as related to statistical data. Students will transition into preparation for the CAPT which is administered in the spring of their 10th grade year.
Integrated Math II is a course designed to teach students critical skills that will be used in every day life. Students will be using real world applications to solve problems in Algebra, Statistics and Geometry. Topics for Algebra and Geometry include, but are not limited to, application of linear functions, area, perimeter and volume of various shapes and sizes. Students will be exploring statistical analysis of graphs and charts. Students will be exploring the question Who Are We? as they solve problems related to the world around them. Integrated Math II prepares the students for the CAPT examination administered in March of 2012.
This course will help students prepare for the CAPT Mathematics test. The test is composed of 32 questions, consisting of 24 grid-in questions and 8 open-ended questions. This course will be helping students to read and understand math problems. Students will be able to see what the questions on the test are like. The illustrative examples and practice exercises are used upon actual CAPT questions. The students will be solving algebraic as well as geometric problems. The content will prepare students for the SAT.
This course has been designed to teach students every thing they need to know to start and maintain their own small business. What students learn here will help them achieve financial independence. Knowing how business works will be of great value in any future career path they may take. Students are learning principles of entrepreneurship, how to negotiate, calculate return on investment, perform cost/benefit analysis, and keep track of their income and expenses. These skills will apply to both their personal and business life. Students will learn about the characteristics of the successful entrepreneur – a positive mental attitude, the ability to recognize opportunities where others only see problems and openness to creative solutions – are qualities worth developing. At the end of the course, students develop a business project (which is a mandatory component of the Senior Capstone Project).
